Wendy Volhard's Healthy Dog Diet from "The Holistic Guide for a Healthy Dog", by Wendy Volhard and Kerry Brown, 2000. Start by feeding a high-quality dry dog food.   For a  50-lb. dog, supplement with: 500 mg vitamin C in the form of calcium ascorbate - TWICE DAILY Vitamin B complex - TWICE DAILY Amino Acid Complex - ONCE DAILY in the morning 1/4 teaspoon vitamin/mineral mix with digestive enzymes and probiotics - TWICE DAILY until puppies are through all vaccinations, then use only during growth spurts and stressful times for your adult dog. Adjust amounts according to your dog's weight.  Each of the following once a week: 1/2 cup raw meat OR 2.5 oz. raw meat and 1.5 oz. raw liver fresh yogurt with live cultures cottage cheese Four days per week give 1 large egg  including the shell -cooked for 5 minutes to kill any bacteria. Add fruit and vegetables - 1/2 cup per day is sufficient.  Use as much variety as possible including: Carrots, beets, sweet potatoes, green or yellow beans, broccoli, parsnips, squash, leeks, kale, collard and turnip greens, brussels sprouts and cauliflower, bananas, plums, prunes, raisins, apricots, and apples. Once or twice a week, give your dog a raw bone (beef femurs are great).  This will help keep his teeth clean, too.
